What I’ve Learned About Success:

You’re more likely to succeed if you’re braver and take initiative. It’s when you take on the responsibilities others try to avoid. And… once you take responsibility to get the job done, success is usually not far behind.

What I’ve Learned About Overcoming Challenges:

As Seneca said, ‘We suffer more in imagination than in reality’. Many challenges seem threatening, difficult to overcome, and perhaps some of them are. But most of them can be overcome by changing one’s attitude and having the discipline to get organised.

What I’ve Learned About Communication:

A lot of things are done with and through people, which means that without clear communication, without knowing what you want and being able to express yourself accordingly, it’s harder to get results. This is especially true for us engineers – sometimes it’s easier to explain to a program what you want it to do than to a colleague.

What I’ve Learned About Personal Growth:

If I were to go back to when I first started, I’d get more involved in the business-related logic of the apps I developed. Once you understand what needs to be done – it’s easier to structure things and get results faster.

What I’ve Learned About Leadership:

The way I see it, leadership largely revolves around the ability to provide clarity. Once you understand a problem and can articulate it clearly to your colleagues, it becomes easier for the team to overcome challenges. When you’re stuck and no one is helping, frustrations and stress escalate, compared to when clarity is provided on what needs to be done. From my observations, when it’s unclear what to do, you end up with results you wouldn’t want to have. Therefore, effective leadership involves not only understanding and communicating clearly but also ensuring that everyone knows their role and what needs to be accomplished.
